Pros

Cons
• Dust filters down through the carpet that can't be cleaned out.
• Some manufacturers require yearly professional cleaning, or warranty is void.
• Moisture & some carpet stains are difficult to extract.
• Shows wear and matting in high traffic areas.
Comments
• For high traffic areas consider lower & tight pile carpet or hard surface flooring.
• Low pile carpet, easier to clean, but not as soft to walk on.
• Nylon: More durable, More expensive, Less stain resistant, but has stain treatment.
• Polyester: More stain resistant, Less expensive, shows wear sooner.
• Triexta: Newer carpet type, but is worthy of your consideration.

Pros
• Best long lasting and durable flooring when installed correctly.
• Good option for kithen, bathrooms & showers.
• Low maintenance floor.
Cons
• Cold and hard under foot.
• More tedious and expensive to install.
• Doesn't muffle sound.

Hardwood Pros & Cons
Pros
• Classic, timeless looks & patterns, can not be matched by other floors.
• Solid hardwood can be refinished many times.
• Adds value to your home.
Cons
• Needs moisture and temperature controlled & is not waterproof.
• One of the more expensive flooring options.
• Can develop squeaks over time.
Comments
• With some TLC hardwood is a long lasting floor.
• Hardwood density needs to be considered for scratch resistance, for engineered, a thick top veneer is best.
• Minor scratches can be hidden with matching stain.



Lvt Pros & Cons
Pros
• Many realistic wood and tile patterns available.
• Low maintenance and can be wet mopped without concerns.
• Variety of option available to fit your needs, including glue down for uneven floors and areas with commercial level traffic.
Cons
• Needs extra floor prep, warranty requirements: floor slope no more than 3/16" in 10 feet.
• Click system can come apart in high traffic areas with lower quality products & if required floor prep is not completed.
• Is not scratch proof, needs felt pads for furniture that is moved.
Comments
• One of the most DIY friendly floorings to install.
• 20 mil wear layer products recommended for higher traffic areas, like kitchen, living room & hallways.

Laminate Pros & Cons
Pros
• Clear aluminum oxide layer makes laminate very scratch resistant.
• 12mm thick product allows for strong locking system.
• DIY friendly, similar to vinyl plank to install, but often requires padding layer.
Cons
• Tends to have a more hollow sound when walked on.
• Is susceptible to moisture.
• Can be slippery. • Can be chipped with sharp, heavy objects.
Comments
• Curved beveled is more water resistant than V beveled edge.
• Not the best for high moisture basements.
• Similar prep work may be required as vinyl plank.


Vinyl Pros & Cons
Pros
• Solid sheet means 100% waterproof.
• Softer surface is more comfortable to walk on.
• Can be used for uneven floors.
Cons
• Subject to cuts & tears.
• Requires underlayment and glue.
• 12 foot wide means its more difficult to maneuver & install.
Comments
• Cushion back vinyl, while more comfortable, may receive dents under furniture legs, and is easier to cut or damage. Hard back vinyl has better performance.
• Can be installed under cabinets and tubs.
